2019 Alter Ego de Palmer Margaux
VM94JR17+
Producer notes: “The Merlots give rise to wines full of power, exuberance, and body. The Cabernets developed a certain coolness and reserve, leading to wines of rare distinction. It is this uncommon coupling that has seen 2019 enter the exclusive club of truly exceptional vintages”.

Blend: Merlot 51%, Cabernet sauvignon 40%, Petit Verdot 9%

2021 Anne-Francoise Gros, Ladoix, La Toppe d’Avignon
Derived from a small plot located at the hill's foothills by the village, the grapes undergo destemming without crushing. Following a brief and cool maceration, the fermentation process involves more pumping over than punching down, resulting in concentrated juice.

"Sappy plums and raspberries on the nose. Retaining its violet florality, this has very pure raspberry fruit and seamless tannins, with just a hint of green spice on the back."

This wine presents an attractive blue fruit character, with hints of black olive and spice. On the palate there is vanilla, liquorice, plum, blueberry jam and leather. Medium-full bodied, incredibly complex, and rich. It bodes well for future ageing.

2011 Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco, Asili Riserva
VM89RP95
Internationally acclaimed for crafting wines of pure, refined, and intricate character, Bruno Giacosa embarked on his winemaking journey at a youthful age of 15, contributing to the family winery established in 1871.
Located in the village of Nieve within Piedmont, Giacosa acquired his own vineyards in 1982. Guided by his 'updated traditional' winemaking philosophy, he expertly developed the attributes of the Nebbiolo grape, achieving a balance of power and elegance in his wines.

Since 2006, Bruno's daughter, Bruna, took over the reins of the estate and has successfully maintained her father's legacy, continuing to produce exceptional wines.

“This is an incredible wine that reminds me of the perfect 2000 Barolo Rocche del Falletto. Flowers, spices, leather and animals. Dried mushrooms too. Then changes to Japanese ginger and lemon peel. Full-bodied but refined and so long. It has layers of fruit and power. Decadent. Ripe and intense. Perfect balance and harmony. “

99 Pts, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com (November 2015)

“The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili (red label) is a full and generous wine that wraps thickly over the senses. The bouquet shows enormous depth and power with a generous presentation of dark fruit, cassis, balsam herb, cola, licorice, tar and lingering smoke. There is an evident sense of fruit ripeness here that helps to build momentum and staying power. Clay soils in the vineyard site have also helped to contribute to the heft and full-bodied nature of this special wine. The finish is characterized by mild acidity and lingering flavours of ripe fruit. The opulent fruit of the wine recalls the 2007 and 2004 vintages.”

“A rich and decadent Barolo with dark berry, meat and hints of chocolate and spice. Full body, layered and dense with some leather and walnut underlying the ripe fruit. Drink in 2020 but already beautiful.”

98 Pts, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, October 2017

“Piercing scents of truffle, rose water, macerated cherry and medicinal herbs are the hallmarks of this elegant red. Less evolved and harmonious on the palate, with a core of sweet fruit and
tightly wound, dense tannins. Stays fresh and long on the extended finish. Best from 2022 through 2043.”

2016 Canon 1er Grand Cru St Emilion
VM97RP98+JR18
Decanter 98/100
“This vintage delivers a beautiful, classic style of Canon that is right at the top of what St-Émilion can offer. Compact and dense without being hard, it is finely structured both in terms of the texture of the cassis and blackberry fruits and in the shape of the tannins.

It demonstrates a clear minerality and a feather-brushing of violet notes. This is less obviously sexy than 2015, but is a wine that offers a masterclass in what limestone terroir can convey - salinity, succulence, hints of austerity and reserves of power.

I retasted it a few times, and the main take away of what to expect is layers of flavour and huge persistency. The details of how they worked the vintage are an added bonus to understanding how they achieved this result. When it started getting hot and dry, they left all green cover on the vines, and did no green harvesting except tidying up in September. The result was loading the vines to avoid over-concentration.”

2020 Cantenac Brown 3rd Cru Margaux
VM97RP92JR16.5
2020 Cantenac Brown is another superb wine from the Margaux appellation offering tremendous value for money, with Antonio Galloni labelling the wine "one of the wines of the vintage."

Over the past few years Director Leo Sanfins and his team have dedicated a huge amount of time to working in the vineyard, which is unquestionably paying off.

The 2020 produced another excellent showing in bottle, with "balanced power" the most fitting descriptor. This wine is up there with the finest this property has ever produced.
