2018 Altocedro, La Consulta Ano Cero Tempranillo, Uco Valley
Great to see a Tempranillo grape in La Consulta vineyard (Mendoza). Actually, this grape is the second to be produced in this area, possibly due to the Spanish colonisation many times ago. Karim (winemaker) and his team selected the Tempranillo from 30 year old vines. The whole bunch of vines are fermented in small concrete vats. Then 30% of the production is aged in American oak barrels for 8-10 months.
During its youth, the wine is fruity (blackberries and other black fruit) and well balanced between the body and the acidity. The tannins are smooth with an elegant texture.
This wine could be paired with most lamb dishes, pork (especially good with Spanish style pork and beans), roasted red peppers, tagines, roast game birds and hard sheep’s cheeses like Manchego.

Blankbottle is owned by Pieter Walser, one of the most creative winemakers. He doesn’t own any vineyards but instead he searches every corner of South Africa for grapes. Now, he has a close relationship with farmers from 70 plots and manages to make over 20 wines from 35 grape varieties. Every wine from Pieter tells a real story. In August 2011, on a farm somewhere between Darling and Hopefield on the West Coast of South Africa, I was visiting a block of grapes, Carignan. I received a SMS from someone who needed me to be in Cape Town within the next hour. Being in the middle of nowhere, I asked the farmer the quickest way to Cape Town. In Afrikaans (one of the 11 official languages of South Africa), the "Kortpad Kaaptoe". He said that I needed to drive towards the Carignan, past the Shiraz and Fernao Pirez...."The FERNAO WHAT???", I asked him? "Fernao Pirez" he replied. One day, Pieter and his team were working hard and late, which happens at harvest time. Sharing a bottle of Riesling from Germany, he asked himself and the other people with him:
Is it possible to be an expert in each and every cultivar if you are making 38 varietals from more than 60 different vineyards - all under the same roof?
The truth is that the idea was never to be a specialist in anything, he just wanted to tell stories - real stories - and the conclusion was that maybe he is, simply, a Master of None.

Now, he has a close relationship with farmers from 70 plots and manages to make over 20 wines from 35 grape varieties. Every wine from Pieter tells a real story.
Cutting a long story short, Pieter Walser very much likes native Spanish grapes such as Mourvedre, Garnacha, Carignan, Cinsault and others. In 2007 he started to produce a wine with only Mourvedre grapes, this Mourvedre grows from a beautiful little bush vine system in Swartland vineyard - planted in pure rugged Schist in the Riebeeck mountains.
Pieter was restricted to buying 1 ton of fruit, which meant only 3 barrels of wine were produced in 2021. Thirty percent of the wine was aged in new oak barrels, producing soft, juicy roundness.
The annual production of this cuvee is only 1373 bottles.

2020 Bodega Alandes, Gran Cabernet Franc, Mendoza
Run by Karim Mussi, one of the most highly regarded wine makers in Argentina. Everything in this wine comes from real artisanal winemaking and we are very pleased to present wine from here.

The fermentation starts with the native yeast and maceration process takes place for two weeks. Finally the wine will aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Karim Mussi’s wines are becoming increasingly sought-after around the world, so we are honoured to stock his wine.

2022 Bodega Colome Salta Torrontés
This historic estate is the oldest working winery in Argentina (1831) and one of the highest vineyards in the world. The altitude of the vineyards is between 1750 and 3111 metres above the sea level. Nowadays, the entire vineyard of 140 hectares is managed biodynamically. The Salta region, where the wine is produced, enjoyed excellent conditions in 2022. The grapes are double selected, first at the vineyard, and the again at the entrance of the winery, through a sorting table. The fermentation process takes place in stainless steel vats at a low temperature to keep the fruity characters of the Torrontes grape. Then the wine settles for 3 months in a tank before bottling. This fresh, dry wine offers a complex aroma of tropical fruit, candied citrus, flower petals and a hint of spice with a great crisp finish.

2019 Casa Lapostolle, Clos Apalta, Colchagua Valley
Tucked away in the Colchagua Valley, near the town of Santa Cruz, the Apalta Valley was the place selected by a visionary in the 1910s who planted this amazing vineyard using a unique French massal selection. In 1994, Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet acquired this property. Clos Apalta was born in 1997 as the iconic wine of the Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle in Chile under the idea to magnify the exceptional terroir of Apalta with French expertise.
Shaping the vineyard foot by foot, building a state-of-the-art gravity fed winery, the family succeeded in making Clos Apalta one of the most iconic wines in South America. Currently, the team is led by the son of the founders and 7th generation, Charles de Bournet. Many international rewards have consolidated its position in the “Legends of Chile” (2005 TOP#1 Wine spectator Magazine, 2017, 100pts by James Suckling, for the third time).

2018 Catena Zapata, Nicolas Catena Zapata, Mendoza
With its debut vintage in 1997, Nicolás Catena Zapata marked a historic milestone as Argentina's first luxury cuvée to reach global markets. This exceptional wine pays homage to the classic "Original Bordeaux Blend" of the 18th and 19th centuries, where Malbec reigned supreme over Merlot and stood on par with Cabernet Sauvignon in the Médoc region. The grapes come from prephylloxeric Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon massale selections of ungrafted vines, providing a glimpse into the past through the elevated vineyards of Mendoza, Argentina. For the 2018 vintage, the blend was 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Malbec.

A refreshing organic wine with nicely balanced aromas of grapefruit and lime that intermingle with subtle tropical fruit aromas, especially pineapple, and a touch of herbs. On the palate, it is a fresh and fruity wine, with velvety texture and a persistent, enjoyable finish. Great value! Ideal for serving with fish and shellfish, cooked with creamy sauces or butter. Also it is perfect accompanying pasta with seafood sauces and as aperitif, served with different cheese and dried fruits. At a recent cheese & wine tasting at N&P this was given a resounding thumbs up when we paired it with Chaource, a rich, soft, slightly nutty cheese.

Organic, hand-harvested, this sumptuous Chilean Malbec is deep ruby-red in colour with vibrant aromas of redcurrant and blackberries, elegantly combined with mild notes of white pepper. Medium-bodied on the palate with silky ripe tannins and a long, broad finish. An elegant wine that is easy to drink.
This is a great wine to serve with hard cheeses, such as Cheddar, Comte, Emmental and Gauda. It’s also an excellent option to accompany red meats, especially beef, lamb and burgers. Yummy!

2021 Emiliana, Novas Gran Reserva Riesling, Bio Bio Valley
Fantastic Riesling wines from one of the Southern regions called Bio Bio. The vines have been grown in Mulchen since 1993.
Grapes are handpicked and pressed. Selected yeasts are added, and two-thirds of the must is fermented in neutral barrels. The remaining third is fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures (12–14ºC) to preserve the aromas and freshness of the wine. Once fermentation is complete, the new wine is left in contact with its fine lees with periodic stirring (batonnage).
This wine will pair with poultry and is great with Asian food and vegetarian options. Alternatively, it's fine on its own too.
