Producer Profile
Faustino
Bodegas Faustino has a rich history as the leading winery for exports of Rioja Grandes Reservas. Founded in 1861, they have grown steadily over the years to become one of the finest producers of quality Rioja wines. They lead the way in tradition and expertise in the region. With 160 years of history and a well-established reputation, they are truly one of the best.
Eleuterio Martinez Arzok founded the vineyard in 1861, when he purchased the palace and vineyards of the Marques del Pietro. The objective was to produce wine and sell it in bulk. But over the years they greatly improved their quality. In 1930, Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz took over and began bottling wine within the region of Rioja.
In 1957, Julio Faustino Martinez, third generation, became the head of the company and launched Faustino as an international brand. Which today is sold in over 50 countries.
Their vineyards cover about 650ha within Rioja. The main varietals grown here are Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano and Viura. The winery can hold about 50,000 oak barrels and they have a permanent stock of some 9 million bottles.
The wines are presented in Burgundy-style bottles with a label bearing a portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck by Rembrandt. The Gran Reserva bottles are wrapped in thin, gold mesh. Tradition is the hallmark of their style.
