Producer Profile
Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante is a prestigious winery in Pomerol, Bordeaux, with a history dating back to the 18th century. The estate spans 12.4 hectares and is owned by the Nicolas family, who have carefully managed it for generations. Situated on some of Pomerol’s finest terroir, the vineyards are planted on gravelly, clay-rich soils that provide ideal conditions for growing high-quality grapes. Known for its commitment to sustainable practices, the estate produces wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the land while maintaining a focus on quality and tradition.
Château La Conseillante's vineyard is primarily planted with 80% Merlot, which is the dominant variety in Pomerol, and 20% Cabernet Franc, a grape that brings added complexity, freshness, and structure to the wine. The estate employs an environmentally sustainable approach to viticulture, using techniques such as cover cropping, organic treatments, and careful pruning to maintain the health of the vines. The harvest is done by hand, and strict sorting takes place both in the vineyard and in the winery to ensure only the best fruit is used for fermentation. After fermentation in temperature-controlled vats, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with around 50% of the barrels being new. This aging process helps to integrate the fruit and oak, allowing the wine to develop complexity and smooth tannins.
The wines of Château La Conseillante are known for their elegance, finesse, and ability to age beautifully. The flagship wine, Château La Conseillante, is a blend that reflects the best of the estate's terroir, producing a wine with a deep, garnet color and aromas of ripe red fruit, violets, truffles, and hints of tobacco. The palate is rich yet smooth, with silky tannins and a long, harmonious finish. The wine has an aging potential of 20 years or more, often reaching its peak after 10-15 years of cellaring. In addition to the flagship wine, the estate also produces a second wine, "Dame de La Conseillante," which showcases the same quality and care but is crafted from younger vines or specific plots with slightly different characteristics. Château La Conseillante’s wines are highly coveted by collectors and consistently earn high ratings from critics, making them one of the top expressions of Pomerol in the Bordeaux region.
