Tasting Notes
Neal Martin 87
The 1995 Lafon-Rochet is quite backward on the nose with rather sultry black fruit, sous-bois and light cigar box scents. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins and earthy black fruit tones, but there is a slight shortfall in freshness and the finish is beginning to show some austerity. Tasted at La Trompette at the WIMPS Bordeaux dinner.

Very good deep ruby-red. Smoke and currants on the nose. Black raspberry, minerals and graphite on the palate. Has a velvety texture but comes across as less harmonious than the ’95; though even, the tannins are more noticeable today. Doesn’t offer quite the sweetness or grip of the ’96.

A much riper nose than the 1996 with macerated black cherries, spice and redcurrants but without the lift and definition of ensuing vintages. A sweet, very supple, fleshy entry leads to a feminine, ripe, succulent palate with no rough edges and good extraction. Wild strawberry, redcurrant and cranberry with a slightly animally finish. Quintessential 1995. No doubt excellent value for an admirable Lafon-Rochet. Drink now-2020. Tasted October 2007.

Lively lift. Dry, a bit inky. Very lively but a bit jagged and raw. Pretty popular with other tasters.
