Chateau Clos L'Eglise
Clos L’Eglise is a historic Pomerol estate, which has been under the ownership of the Garcin-Leveque family since 1997. Under their stewardship they refocused on modernisation and quality; installing new equipment such as fermenters, and refurbishing the property, whilst maintaining the original 18th Century façade. Their work has seen Clos L’Eglise regain its position at the peak of the appellation.
The estates history in wine production dates back to the 19th century, though the property itself dates back to the 18th. In its early years it formed part of a larger estate with what is now Chateau Goumbaude Guillot.
The estate used to cover 14 hectares, a sizable estate for Pomerol, but over the years it became divided. Today they have 6 hectares under vine, located in the centre-east of the Pomerol appellation, adjacent to Chateau Clinet
Their vines are planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc on clay-gravel soils shot through with iron oxide. They age their wines longer than a lot of Pomerol producers, with 24 months in oak, giving rich and structured wines.
