The 2007 Lynch-Bages is well-defined on the nose with blackberry, raspberry coulis, loam and melted tar aromas, quintessentially Pauillac and gaining delineation in the glass. There is just a scintilla of sur-maturite when I return to this wine ten minutes later. The palate is medium-bodied and precocious with sweet black fruit laced with tobacco and graphite, but it lacks some amplitude and complexity on the finish. Full ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice and minerals. Juicy and tightly wound but essentially pliant, with smooth black fruit and licorice flavors complicated by leather and fresh herbs. Classically dry and very Pauillac. Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits’ 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Lynch Bages is a wine that has shown well on several occasions in the past. Unfortunately, on this occasion I was left scratching my head. This bottle felt a little raw on the nose, a little green juxtaposed against the 2007 Grand Puy Lacoste. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin and, again, is a little green with an attenuated raw finish. I will seek to re-taste this in the future. Tasted February 2017. [Neal Martin, 28/09/2017]

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged for 15 months in oak barrels (70% new).
Solid red hue with a touch of brick at the rim. Graphite notes with a minty, herbal edge. Juicy fruit on the palate. Again, very fresh. Slightly shorter finish but satisfying all the same. (JL) [25/02/2025]
