Mazzei
The Mazzei family continues to uphold their 24-generation legacy at Castello di Fonterutoli, a cornerstone of Chianti Classico and Tuscany with a rich history and promising future. The estate's distinctiveness lies in its unique soil, where the mingling of Alberese and sandstone rock imparts a mineral-rich, complex essence to the terroir.
Hand-harvested grapes from 114 parcels undergo individual vinification and aging in wooden barrels, harnessing the diversity of the land to create wines of extraordinary depth and complexity. The global renown of Castello di Fonterutoli's wines establishes it as a benchmark for Chianti Classico.
The estate's ties to Chianti's winemaking heritage date back centuries, with historical records tracing to a 1398 transaction involving Ser Lapo Mazzei and Francesco Datini, marking an early reference to Chianti as a wine-producing region.
The Fonterutoli Winery stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation, commanding the landscape while preserving ancestral wisdom. Designed by Agnese Mazzei, the avant-garde winery embodies a harmonious blend of modernity and environmental consciousness.
Encompassing 110 hectares of vineyards divided into 114 parcels across seven zones, the estate spans a total of 650 hectares.
Situated between 220 and 570 meters above sea level, the vineyards coexist with secondary crops and forests, creating an ideal habitat for various wildlife species to roam freely.
