Ornellaia
Established in 1981, Ornellaia began their quest for excellence and expression of unique Mediterranean charm. The Ornellaia name is synonymous with the Italian lifestyle and represents timeless elegance.
Nestled in the foothills near Bolgheri, Ornellaia lies just a few kilometres from the coast. During the summer months, the cool sea breezes sweep through the vineyard ad nearby olive groves. Whilst during winter, the hills provide protection from cold north winds.
Their maritime, alluvial, and volcanic soil provides the perfect conditions for their expression of terroir. Vineyards are South-West facing so to embrace the last rays of sunshine as it sets over the sea. With dozens of parcels, each a microcosm with unique identity and expression. This combination of soil, sun, sea, wind, and history of this land, defines every wine.
The team’s dedication, in addition to optimal geological characteristics and an exemplary microclimate, has resulted in critical acclaim within Italy and internationally.
Alongside, 'Ornellaia' the estate produce a prestige cuvee, 'Masseto' which is renowned as one of Italy’s most prestigious and sought-after wines, particularly for its exceptional quality and limited production. Predominantly Merlot-based, the unique terroir, characterized by clay soil mixed with gravel and excellent drainage, contributes to the wine’s distinct character and complexity.
