Producer Profile
Chateau Gruaud Larose
Chateau Gruaud Larose is a 2nd growth estate within the appellation of Saint-Julien. They are renowned for producing one of the most full-bodied, age-worthy wines in the region. The estate covers 84 hectares atop a gravel-rich plateau.
For many years Gruaud-Larose was owned by the négociants Cordier, who also owns Chateau Talbot. However, in 1993, it was sold to the French conglomerate, Alcastel Alstom, then it was later sold to the Taillan Group. Throughout all of these changes, the talented winemaker Georges Pauli has remained at the estate, ensuring their identity and character are upheld.
The wine is made up of approximately 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Vinification takes place in a combination of wooden vats and cement tanks, then the wines are aged in oak barriques for 18 months. With age, these wines become well balanced, complex, and packed with notes of black fruits, cedar, spices and liquorice.
