Producer Profile
Christian Gosset
Christian Gosset is focused on the great terroirs from Pinot Noir in Ay, which has been home to the Gosset family for over 500 years. With Pierre Gosset being the first recorded winemaker in the family tree in 1584. Christian Gosset decided to set up independently, and make his own mark on the Champagne industry.
In 2015, Christian decided to begin a personal project, based around the terroir of his village. From his 5 hectares of vineyards in Grand Cru villages Ay and Chouilly, as well as the Premier Crus of Mareuil-sur-Ay and Dizy, he crafts a range of expressive champagnes. He is focused on quality above all else. His first harvest took place in 2016, and with 35 years of experience before this, he is just at the beginning of defining the wines he always dreamed of.
The Pinot Noir vines have a high average age of 45 years+, and are naturally low yielding. Giving very concentrated grapes with great character and identity. His vineyards in a prime location, on the tops of hills with southwestern exposure. It is a succession of small valleys, with varying altitudes and soils, and therefore a great diversity of terroir. This gives the wines complexity and intensity.
Each plot is hand-picked and vinified separately in barrel, and fermented on wild yeasts. The wines are aged in his cellar for a minimum of 3 years on the lees. Winemaking is low impact and low intervention.
The Christian Gosset style is aromatic, powerful and structured. With a thread of precision and intensity. Christian crafts gastronomic champagnes destined to elevate world-class cuisine with a trademark long, complex finish.
