Producer Profile
Clos des Menuts
In the 50s, Clos des Menuts, had only one hectare. Today, it covers 25 hectares situated near the fortification of the medieval city, mainly in the west of the town. Located in the heart of Saint Emilion, Clos des Menuts has beautiful medieval monolithic cellars which originate from the 12th Century.
The Riviere family took over the estate in the 1950s, with Pierre Riviere at the helm. Since then, every effort has been made to develop the vineyards and the winery. Pierre later handed over the reins to his sons Jean-Pierre and Philippe, they set out to improve the sustainability of the estate.
Clos de Menuts produces wines which are recognised for their full-bodied, rich style, with excellent ageing potential. The terroir has sandy-clay soils with great drainage, perfectly suited to Merlot, which makes up 80% of the vineyard. Alongside this, they plant 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.
