Producer Profile
Robert Groffier
Domaine Groffier is a respected domaine based in Burgundy, covering 8 hectares of vineyards across Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Gevrey Chambertin. They are renowned for their expressive and elegant Pinot Noir wines.
The estates origins date back to the 19th Century when Frederic Groffier began growing grapes in the Cote de Nuits. Then Jules Groffier took over in the 1950s and renamed the estate after his son Robert. Today Roberts’s grandson Nicolas runs the estate.
The farm their vineyards sustainably, and carefully hand pick their grapes to ensure quality and offer the best expression of the terroir.
They typically use 20-25% whole bunch fermentation with grapes chilled for a week prior to fermentation to increase aromatic complexity. The wines undergo fairly extended maceration of 20 days, with frequent punch-downs. The Grand Crus see 100% new oak, with the Premier Cru and village wines seeing significantly less.
