Producer Profile
Marrone
Pietro Marrone was born in 1887, into a family which had been cultivating vines for generations. He was very passionate and ambitious from an early age, and he wanted his family’s grapes to be the finest in the village. In 1910, he began converting the estate to more modern techniques which were seen as revolutionary, including reducing production and stopping sowing wheat between rows, gradually all the vineyards in the area followed suit.
Four generations have followed in Pietro’s footsteps, and today the estate is managed by the fourth generation, sisters Denise, Serena and Valentina. Between them, they are looking ambitiously to the future, and focused on maintaining the tradition of Marrone.
The Marrone estate houses a wide range of grape varietals, including; Arneis, Chardonnay, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and Nebbiolo. They avoid the use of herbicides, instead managing their vines under organic practices. They also carry out all pruning, trellising and harvesting by hand – as they believe this attention to detail allows the grapes to reach the cellar in perfect conditions.
