Producer Profile
Château Lafleur
Chateau Lafleur is based within the appellation of Pomerol, on the right bank of the Gironde. It is quite a small property, consisting of just 4.5 hectares. It is renowned as one of the great growths of the region. It sits among the worlds finest, and rarest.
Lafleur was founded in 1872, when Henri Greloud, the owner of Chateau Le Gay, bought the plot. It still remains in the family, and is now run by his great-grandchildren Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau.
Their grand vin is a combination of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It is known for its concentration, creamy texture and intense black fruits and spicy character. They also have a second wine, Pensées de Lafleur, which is typically 50-70% Merlot and 30-50% Cabernet Franc
Their main vineyard sits on deep layers of gravel, on the edge of the Pomerol plateau, next to the La Fleur-Petrus estate. It is planted 50/50 between Merlot and Cabernet Franc (commonly referred to as Bouchet, the name given to the grape by the Guinaudeau family).
Robert Parker once called Lafleur “one of the most distinctive, most exotic and greatest wines – not only in Pomerol, but in the world”. This acclaim helped cement the estate as one of the most sought-after wines coming out of the region.
