Will Gardener 93-95/100
Great colour, an impressive inky, tight knit nose, pure and enticing, cedary, this has a generous palate with good tension. A smidgen of everything. Less extraction here which certainly suits the vintage, great finish with bags of finesse. Super effort here.

The 2022 Langoa-Barton was cropped at 30hL/ha from September 8-23 then matured in 60% new oak. The nose needs a few minutes to cohere, raspberry and dark cherry fruit, bunches of violet, almost Margaux-like in personality. The palate is where the action is at the moment with finely-chiseled tannins, a saline undertow, almost briny with a fresh and quite compelling, classically-styled finish. Fine length, this is a Langoa that just like the ABBA song, will go on and on and on.

The 2022 Langoa-Barton is racy, open-knit and quite delicious. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint and spice give the 2022 palpable freshness to play off its gracious, mid-weight personality.

Full bottle 1,340 g. 56.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc.
Deepest crimson with purple-crimson rim. Open and scented with cassis and the merest hint of cedary leafiness as well as subtly sweet oak. Big, rich, firmly, chewily tannic and with a bite of freshness on the finish. Chewy but smooth in texture, the oak not as dominant as when James Lawther tasted it en primeur. Not at all flashy yet deeply satisfying and whole-hearted. Fills the mouth with fruit and yet has a clean aftertaste. (JH)
