Producer Profile
Maison Aux Pois
Maison Aux Pois is a young and distinctive wine estate located in Hungary’s renowned Tokaj wine region, and one of our favourite new producers. Founded in 2019, the estate represents a modern, outsider perspective in a historically traditional region, as its creators did not come from a long line of local winemakers. Instead, they were drawn to Tokaj through a passion for wine and gradually established their own vineyards around the village of Mád, embracing the challenge of working with rugged terrain and complex soils.
The philosophy of Maison Aux Pois centres on elegance, balance, and the authentic expression of site. The estate cultivates several vineyards such as Betsek and Holdvölgy, where stony soils and varied exposures contribute to layered, characterful wines. Focusing primarily on local varieties including Furmint and Hárslevelű, alongside small amounts of other grapes, the winemaking is deliberately restrained - oak influence is carefully controlled, and freshness is prioritised to preserve purity and structure. The result is a portfolio that reflects both the identity of Tokaj and a refined, modern stylistic approach.
Their wines are particularly well suited to contemporary tastes, offering vibrancy, precision, and food-friendly structure. Dry Furmints show crisp acidity and saline minerality, while blends can bring added texture and aromatic complexity. These are wines that appeal to both enthusiasts of classic Tokaj and those seeking a more understated, terroir-driven style as they combine innovation with deep respect for place.
