Producer Profile
Château Clerc Milon
Château Clerc Milon is a distinguished estate in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, classified as Fifth Growth Grand Cru Classé in the historic 1855 classification. Located in the northern sector of Pauillac, the vineyard sits close to some of the region’s most renowned properties, benefiting from the gravelly soils that are central to Pauillac’s reputation. The estate takes its name from the Clerc family, who acquired the land near the hamlet of Milon after the French Revolution, establishing the foundation of the château’s identity in the Médoc.
A significant turning point came in 1970 when the estate was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, marking the beginning of a sustained revival focused on quality and precision. Under Rothschild ownership, the vineyards were restructured and expanded, and substantial investments were made in modern winemaking facilities to support careful vinification and ageing. Today, Château Clerc Milon remains under the stewardship of the Rothschild family, combining classical Bordeaux tradition with contemporary techniques to express the character of Pauillac’s terroir.
The vineyard covers approximately 41 hectares and is planted with a classic Bordeaux blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, alongside smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a small amount of Carmenère. The wines are known for their balance of structure and elegance, offering layers of dark fruit, spice, and mineral notes supported by refined tannins. Château Clerc Milon also produces a second wine, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, which provides a more approachable interpretation of the estate’s style while maintaining the pedigree of the grand vin.
