Producer Profile
Château Lynch-Bages
A fantastic Fifth Growth estate, and perhaps one of the best known in the Medoc. Château Lynch-Bages is located within the appellation of Pauillac, on Bordeaux’s left bank. They have always had a cult following for UK customers, as a result of their richness, ageing potential, and unwavering quality.
The estate has 90 hectares of vineyards on a plateau west of Pauillac town. They are planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc atop deep gravel beds over limestone. They also have a small vineyard, approximately 4.5 hectares, planted with different white varieties. Alongside this, they also produce a second wine; Echo de Lynch-Bages.
Lynch Bages can be surprisingly soft and approachable when young. However, when fully mature, it develops a succulent richness and a heavenly bouquet of minty blackcurrants and cigar boxes. As Oz Clarke says "Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at ten years and irresistible at twenty." They are certainly one of the most sought-after cru classes.
