Producer Profile
Château d'Armailhac
Château d'Armailhac is a historic wine estate situated in the prestigious Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. Originally known as Mouton d'Armailhacq, the estate was classified as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. In 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild acquired the property, renaming it Château Mouton Baron Philippe. Following his death, his widow, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, restored the original name in 1989 to honour its heritage. Today, the estate is managed by the third generation of the Rothschild family, including Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild.
The vineyard spans approximately 80 hectares across three distinct gravel terraces in Pauillac. It is planted with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. The vineyard's diverse soils, including deep gravel and clay-limestone bases, contribute to the wine's characteristic refinement and elegance. The average age of the vines is 46 years, with some dating back to 1890, reflecting the estate's long-standing commitment to quality viticulture.
Beyond this, Foursquare is well known for its Exceptional Cask Series and Private Cask Selection bottlings; these limited one-off releases are some of the most highly-sought after expressions from the distillery, showcasing unique vattings and ages that are meticulously crafted by Master Distillery Richard Seale.
