Producer Profile
Clos Rene
Clos Rene is a classic, representative Pomerol. They are located on the western edge of the appellation cover over 18 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec vines atop gravelly and sandy soils. They have become recognised as one of the true classics of Pomerol, with consistency vintage to vintage, and excellent value for money.
They are one of the older estates in the Pomerol appellation, dating back to the mid-18th Century, with the Chateau being constructed in 1880. In the late 1970s, they were one of the final chateaux to being bottling at the estate, rather than selling to négociants in barrel as had been done historically. Today, the estate is co-owned by the Garde and Laserre families, and managed by Jean-Marie Garde.
Their wines are renowned for their seductive, open style, with luscious red and black fruit, caramel, coffee and superb oak integration. These are wines that age beautifully and are extremely popular. They are certainly some of the best value Pomerol wines on the market.
