Compass Box Experimental Grain

Made using a parcel of peated malted barley at the Loch Lomond Distillery, this expression from Compass Box questions whether the whisky is a malt or grain. Although this component was made from 100% malted barley, the whisky was distilled using a Coffey (column) still rather than a traditional Pot still, therefore it can't be classified as a malt. Banana and toffee give way to rum and raspberry, complemented with notes of almond and vanilla.

Composition of the blend:

31% second-fill bourbon barrel (The Loch Lomond Distillery)
17.8% second-fill bourbon barrel (Hedonism blended grain)
14.5% recharred American oak hogshead (the Cameronbridge Distillery)
36.7% recharred American oak barrel (The North British Distillery)
