Producer Profile
Laurent-Perrier
Laurent-Perrier is a Champagne house founded in 1812 when Alphonse Pierlot purchased two parcels of land in Tours-sur-Marne. Today, they are one of the world’s top champagne brands, exporting to more than 120 countries. Renowned for their quality and consistency across their range of cuvees.
Pierlot willed the company to his cellar master Eugene Laurent, who ran the estate with his wife Mathilde Emilie Perrier. After Eugene’s death in 1887, Mathilde took control and attached her name to the company, changing it to Veuve Laurent-Perrier (Veuve meaning widow). She led the company to success, producing 50,000 cases of Champagne. However this was short-lived due to the outbreak of World War one.
After her death, the company was left to Eugenie Hortense Laurent, who in turn sold the company to Mary-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt who invested well into the company. The company eventually passed to Bernard de Nonancourt in 1949, he grew the business to be one of the largest family-owned Champagne houses. The family still retains the majority ownership today.
Bernard de Nonancourt created the Laurent-Perrier style; freshness, elegance and purity. To achieve this, he was able to use the traditional practices of Champagne, but also to initiate and stimulate new technical approaches to production. They were one of the first Champagne houses to use stainless steel vats in order to preserve the complexity of its aromas.
Blending is the real secret of their Champagne quality. Laurent-Perrier is the only House who’s most prestigious and demanding Cuvée, Grand Siècle is not vintage-stamped but numbered. It is the blend of 3 exceptional vintages to recreate the perfect year.
Laurent-Perrier is a family-run, independent house that has always played a pioneering and innovative role in Champagne. Through their commitment to sustainable viticulture, and through their cuvees, they have built a stellar reputation, marked by quality and consistency.
