More From Mortlach
Mortlach Rare Old
From a mixture of sherry and bourbon casks comes Mortlachs first release of their new range of Mortlach single malts. When Mortlach was seen in the Flora and Fauna release it was known to be indeed quite sherried. The Mortlach Rare Old brings a complex malt which is rather light and spicy. Baked fruits and a nuttyness on the nose. The spice appears on the palate bringing Cinnamon, a jammy-ness, raisons and a pleasant creaminess. The finish is nutty witha pepper spice.

Diageo’s legend of The Lure of The Blood Moon goes some way to explain the powerful flavours of this fan-favourite distillery, as one night the moon turned blood-red, transforming the distillery into a mythic creature that soared towards the glowing red orb. The stills were forever more imbued with a mysterious alchemy, offering the meaty dark flavours associated with Mortlach, The Beast of Dufftown.
Matured in refill American oak, then virgin American oak, tawny port and red muscat seasoned casks, this one is full of the powerful flavours we love from Mortlach. Tobacco, gravy, and a dash of marmite on the nose somehow peel away to hints of red velvet cake. The palate is far sweeter than initially suggested by the nose, with notes of stewed red berries, but still retaining the meaty character, with hints of meatballs and cranberry sauce. An exceptional dram, bottled at 57.8% ABV.
