Château Enclos Tourmaline is a relatively new but highly respected estate in the Pomerol appellation, established in the early 21st century. Despite its recent origins, it has quickly gained recognition for producing exceptional wines. The estate is located on prime Pomerol terroir, with clay, gravel, and iron-rich soils that contribute to the wines' complexity and elegance. Château Enclos Tourmaline has made a name for itself by combining traditional methods with modern techniques, producing wines that reflect the best qualities of the region.
The vineyard at Château Enclos Tourmaline spans just 5 hectares, a relatively small size that allows for meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard and winery. The estate primarily cultivates Merlot, which thrives in the Pomerol soil and imparts the characteristic smoothness and richness typical of the appellation. A smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc is also planted, which adds aromatic complexity and structure to the wines. The vineyard management is carried out with a focus on organic practices and minimal intervention, ensuring the preservation of the natural balance of the land. This careful approach to viticulture, combined with low yields, allows the estate to produce wines with exceptional concentration and finesse.
The winemaking at Château Enclos Tourmaline emphasizes both precision and quality. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and fermented in small vats to maintain the integrity of each batch. After fermentation, the wine undergoes aging in French oak barrels for 12-18 months, imparting subtle oak influences and enhancing the wine's complexity. The result is a wine that is both powerful and refined, with vibrant fruit flavors of black cherry and plum, complemented by earthy and floral notes. The tannins are silky, and the finish is long and smooth. Though still a young producer, Château Enclos Tourmaline’s wines have quickly gained recognition for their balance, elegance, and potential for aging, making them a sought-after choice for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
