Chateau Pavie-Macquin is a Bordeaux estate ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe B in the Saint-Emilion classification. It rose to prominence in the 1990s, and was then promoted to this classe in 2006. This winery is one of three Pavie estates, all of which are located on the right bank.
The estate first established itself in 1887 with the arrival of Albert Macquin. He purchased several parcels of vines which in turn created the estate, and a wine of critical acclaim. He was also instrumental in pioneering the use of grafted rootstocks to counter the phylloxera epidemic, a method which is now common practice in vineyards.
The vineyard area extends over 15 hectares with 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon across the hill of Pavie. Their wines boast concentration, density and cellaring potential.
