2019 Klein Constantia, Sauvignon Blanc Metis, Constantia
Using a unique and minimalistic approach to winemaking, the Metis offers a true expression of the Constantia terroir.
Lively and bright in appearance. The nose bursts with aromas of blackcurrant leaf, wet slate and limes. Rich complex flavours of kiwi fruit and lemon zest follow on the palate. Textured with a coarse salinity on the mid palate. A pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Youthful and elegant, the wine concludes with a long zesty lingering finish.

2022 Gunderloch Nierstein Dry Riesling
The 2022 vintage is a warm vintage and the profile is more juicy and hints of exotic fruits combined with blossom and herbal notes as well as refreshing acidity and fruit purity.
The powerful nose immediately presents green and red apples. The palate is balanced and comes with edges of grapefruit zest that have a phenolic dimension, supporting freshness and lending texture. The mid-palate has much concentration for a light-bodied wine, a lovely combination of juiciness and concentration. The long finish is bone-dry.

2023 Antinori (Castello della Sala), Bramito del Cervo, IGT
Bramito is the sister wine to the famous "Cervaro" and is produced from the vineyards surrounding the medieval castle at Castello della Sala. One variety that thrives in this terroir is Chardonnay. The vineyards are on soils rich in fossil deposits with veins of clay that give the wine minerality and elegance. Bramito is a perennial overachiever when it comes to critic reviews. A no brainer for the discerning Chardonnay drinker.

2022 Bernard Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
More discreet wood influence combines with ripe aromas of white and yellow peach, seashore wisps and a hint of phenolic character. There is both good volume and energy to the utterly delicious, rich and generously proportioned, even plush, flavours that tighten up on the clean, moderately dry and citrus-inflected finish. This should definitely drink well young but Fourchaume is always deceptively approachable in its youth so I have no doubt that it will age well too.

2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix, Chablis Grand Cru, Vaudesir
A vague whiff of the exotic adds breadth to the aromas of lychee, dried apricot and iodine where a background hint of honeysuckle slowly emerge. The strikingly fine and precise yet nicely concentrated middleweight flavours flash a lovely minerality that adds a sense of lift on the balanced and equally long finish. This classy effort needs to add depth but that should develop if given a chance.

2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix, Chablis Premier Cru, Cote de Lechet
Moderate wood is present on the vaguely exotic nose of white and yellow peach, iodine and algae nuances. There is impressive density and intensity to the utterly delicious and beautifully textured medium-bodied flavours that also exude a subtle minerality on the tangy, succulent and bone-dry finale that is like sucking on an oyster shell. Good stuff and well-worth considering.

A more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of white pepper and a vague suggestion of the exotic while offering an array of classic Chablis elements. The rich, generous and beautifully textured medium weight flavours flash evident minerality on the clean, dry, balanced and citrus-tinged finale.

2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix, Chablis Premier Cru, Les Lys
Layered aromas of mineral reduction, tidal pool and citrus zest are trimmed in more subtle oak influence. There is solid volume and vibrancy along with very good density to the middleweight flavours that retain good punch and a discreet stoniness that surfaces on the moderately austere, balanced and nicely persistent finish. As is usually the case, this is an understated wine of finesse.

2022 Domaine Bernard Defaix, Chablis Premier Cru, Montee de Tonnerre
Here too there is enough wood influence suffusing the aromas of mineral reduction, pretty floral wisps, spice and iodine to merit mentioning. I very much like the sophisticated texture of the acceptably concentrated middleweight flavours that deliver excellent depth and length on the firm, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale.

2022 Domaine Jaeger Defaix, Rully Premier Cru, Rabource
A wine that is characterised by its richness on the mouth and its strength that give a great length. A subtle but not imperceptible application of wood sets off the cool and airy blend of white orchard fruit, citrus confit and a hint of crushed anise. There is again fine concertation to the delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavours that also flash good underlying tension that carries over the nicely dry and equally persistent finish.
