2020 Tenuta del Melo, Gavi
Gavi di Gavi is a DOCG region in Piedmont, North West Italy. The 1,200-hectare vineyard area surrounds the city of Gavi itself. Cortese, Piedmont’s finest white grape, is at the heart of Gavi di Gavi and is distinguished by its crisp, floral, peachy, aromatic qualities.
This is one of the best Gavis we’ve tried in recent years – you can tell that it’s been carefully made - so it’s no surprise that the Rossi Cairo family, owners of the Tenuta del Melo winery have embarked on a project of conversion to organic and biodynamic certified production.
The Cortese grapes are handpicked and fermented in stainless steel tanks before being aged on its lees for three months, giving fantastic concentration, richness, and mouth-watering freshness. Bight orchard fruits, runny honey and candied citrus fruits merge with subtle notes of almond. Lively, balanced and ever so drinkable especially paired with fresh fish or roasted vegetable dishes!
