2016 J. Bouchon, Block Series Carmenere, Maule Valley
It all started with Emile Bouchon at the end of the 19th Century. Today Julio Bouchon (4th generation) and his children carry on the family tradition of making distinctive and terroir-driven wines.

The Block Series is all about terroir. These wines, made from Carmenere grapes, are from small parcels no more than then than 2 hectares each. After the harvest, the grapes are stocked in a tank at a low temperature for 48 hours. Then the fermentation process begins for 12 days at a normal temperature (24-28C). This process gives the wine a pure expression of the grape.

The wine is aged in foudre (70%) and French oak barrels (30%) for 12 months.

The wine will pair perfectly with Indian and Mexican food, stuffed mixed spiced vegetables or would be excellent with barbecued grilled meat.

Mountford Estate’s vineyard is located on the North West face of the Waipara Valley’s eastern hills below the Teviotdale range.  Dubbed the golden mile, as the aspect gains high amounts of light and heat.  The soils, which are marl (active limestone), add a fine minerality to the finished wines.
The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and matured in 40% new French oak barriques. The resulting wine displays notes of chocolate, cherry with a twist of truffle.

2019 La Crema, Pinot Noir, Monterey
Justifiably famous for their extensive, elegant ranges wines, this is a carefully crafted Pinot Noir:  from hand-harvesting at night, thus retaining freshness, to utilising a mix of new and neutral French oak to age for around 8 months prior to final blending and bottling.

Rich and savoury, with flavours of blackberry, plum and redcurrant, supported by a touch of sweet spice, this pairs beautifully with grilled poultry, mushroom risotto, barbecued sausages and charcuterie.

2020 Folding Hill, Ballasalla Pinot Noir, Central Otago
Folding Hill is a small family owned wine company that makes premium wines from fruit grown entirely on its own 11 acre, certified organic vineyard in Bendigo Central Otago.
Virtually all viticulture is done by hand and yields are managed to provide optimally ripe fruit that allow our wines to fully express the beautiful site they come from.

They use traditional old world techniques and a “hands off” approach of minimal intervention with their wine making. The wine is made with fully destemmed, but not crushed, fruit that is vinified in small open top fermenters and matured in French oak barriques.
This example shows classic Central Otago flavours of both red and darker fruits, spice and balanced oak.
This Pinot noir is typically a more ‘drink young’ but it also does age well over 3 to 5 years.
Folding Hill Wines really are "Handmade from Central Otago.”
