2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie, Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Evocelles
JR17.0
Situated between Cote de Nuit & Cote de Beaune, the Domaine’s history goes back to 1966 with Les Evocelles - the first vineyard plot they acquired. Its name derives from “Les Brosselles”, which translates as a patch of scrubland.  The vines are ideally located on a steep east-south-east slope, Pinot-friendly calcareous soil. The Domaine has been certified organic since 2001. All of the estate’s wines are aged in oak, using just 20% new wood each year.
Respect for nature has always prevailed at the Domaine de la Vougeraie, which also uses biodynamic practices.
Expect this wine to still have power and freshness of red fruits alongside the developing earthy, savoury notes.

2013 Fontodi, Chianti Classico, Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione
VM97+RP96JR17.5
“The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo possesses off-the-charts richness and textural intensity. Beams of tannin give the wine its shape, but they are nearly buried by the sheer depth of the fruit. Readers should expect a dark, virile Vigna del Sorbo that is likely to develop at a glacial pace. The 2013 was reticent last year and is even more so this year. (AG) 97+ “(1/2018)

“A juicy Chianti Classico with dried fruit and cedar character. Full and chewy. Very long. Juicy finish. So structured. Pure Sangiovese from Fontodi's best vineyard and aged 24 months in wood. Serious. Better in 2020. One of the best ever wines from Vigna del Sorbo. “(7/2016)

2014 Fontodi, Chianti Classico, Vigna del Sorbo Gran Selezione
VM95+RP94
Fontodi resides in the heart of Chianti Classico, situated in the valley south of Panzano known as the "Conca d'Oro" or the "golden shell" due to its amphitheatre shape. The unique terroir combines high altitude, calcar clays/chist soil, abundant sunlight, and an exceptional micro-climate characterized by warm and dry conditions with significant day-to-night temperature variations.

Covering 130 hectares, Fontodi is a certified organic estate, with approximately 70 hectares dedicated to vine cultivation. The agricultural practices adhere to the principles of nature preservation and sustainability. Beyond the avoidance of chemical products, there is a deliberate effort to optimize the estate's internal resources, minimizing reliance on external inputs. By prioritizing environmental respect, Fontodi produces wines that are enhanced, purer, and a genuine expression of both the grape and the terroir.
Vigna del Sorbo vineyards have 55 year-old vines with south-west exposure

Fermentation and maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts for at least 3 weeks.
Ageing follows in French oak barrels and casks for 24 months

“Exotic spice, pipe tobacco, dark-skinned berry, forest floor and a whiff of French oak all come together on this structured red. The elegant, full-bodied palate evokes Marasca cherry, black raspberry, liquorice and white pepper while vibrant acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins provide balance. It’s still young, with great energy and will benefit from more time in the bottle.” (3/2018)

“I tasted this wine as a preview about eight months ago, and it has fleshed out considerably since then. The 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo impresses for the depth and the intensity of the fruit. The bouquet is shapely and round with dark cherry nuances, blackberry, grilled herb and sweet spice. You also get a lingering moment of strong firmness and power on the close. This wine does the vintage proud. “ (10/2017)

2016 Chateau Musar, Red
Producer notes: “Our 2016 vintage is deep ruby in colour with high viscosity. Red cherries, plums, carob and figs dominate the nose with a hint of eastern spice. Kirsch and plums follow through to the palate with blackcurrant and chocolate. The tannins are velvety soft and this wine has a lot of depth and fruit concentration with a long finish.

The 2016 harvest showed without a doubt, that global warming is causing higher annual temperatures and at the same time, successive years of low rainfall have resulted in drier soils. Clearly, these factors may affect maturation of the grapes as well as the wine-making process but for 2016, with the much needed rainfall and almost perfect climatic conditions, we have high expectations for this vintages’ future for decades to come.”
