Arran 1998 24 years old – Old & Rare (Hunter Laing) 55.8
We're once again treated to a glorious bottling of fine Scotch whisky from Hunter Laing's Old & Rare range. Spirit first flowed at the Arran distillery in the summer of 1995, meaning this 1998-distilled whisky was produced just three years into the distillery's lifetime. This remarkable Arran was matured in a single refill hogshead, where for 24 years it reacted with the cask to mature into the refined whisky we're presented with today. An unadulterated expression of the effects of long maturation on a fine Scotch, bottled at the natural cask strength of 55.8% without colouring or chill-filtration, from a cask yielding just 256 bottles.

Bunnahabhain 1998 Feis Ile 2023 – Manzanilla Finish
Bunnahabhain have set the bar high for Fèis Ìle 2023 with the release of this wonderful 1998 vintage. After decades of maturation, the whisky was transferred to ex-Manzanilla sherry casks for a finishing maturation. Manzanilla sherry's distinctive robust style with hints of salinity aligns beautifully with the coastal character of Bunnahabhain, accentuating the thick and flavoursome maritime profile. Add the musty warehouse notes of over two decades of maturation and you have a masterpiece.

Honeyed almonds fragranced with floral notes and Patisserie on the nose, with a dusting of dried spices and old oak. A sip brings forth maritime notes, revealing sticky raisins and salted toffee, with a hint of star anise. Nuts and spices linger on the finish, alongside a fading coastal note.

1998 Chateau Musar, Red
Seven years in the making, Chateau Musar Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault from vineyards near the Bekaa Valley villages of Ammiq, Aana and Kefraya on gravelly soils over limestone. Planted from the 1930s onwards, yields are low from these mature bushvines (average age: 40 years): 35hl per hectare. In youth, Chateau Musar Reds are dense and richly-textured, with intense ‘baked fruit’ characteristics. Bordeaux grape Cabernet Sauvignon lends black fruit flavours. Either set of qualities might dominate a particular vintage, but the style is always emphatically Lebanese: enticingly aromatic, with persistent fruit flavours. Over decades the wines acquire tawny hues and mellow notes.
