A A Badenhorst is well known in South Africa for producing great wine with character.

Secateur range offer a great expression of grape varities and for a good value for money.
2019 blend of mainly Cinsault (54%) completed with Grenache (23%) and Syrah (23%).
Vinification: All grapes are hand-picked, chilled overnight and then crushed into open concrete tanks for natural primary fermentation which lasts around two weeks. The tanks are pigeaged (foot stomped, with clean feet, normally!) twice daily during this time. Produced from low yielding 30 to 50 year old Montepulciano vines in Abruzzo, matured in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and French oak barriques for 6-8 months. The result is an intense wine with cherry, ripe plum fruit aromas and warm, earthy spice. The palate is densely packed with morello cherry, cassis and bramble fruit flavours. Tannins are ripe, giving structure to a substantial wine with a fresh sappy finish.

2021 Alasia, Brachetto d’Acqui
The Brachetto variety may have originated in Provence, but today it is grown in much larger quantities in Italy, in particular in Piemonte. The Brachetto vine is delicate, giving low yields from which sweet red wines with the colour and flavour of strawberries are produced. The grapes for Alasia Brachetto d'Acqui are sourced from vineyards in the Monferrato hills in the south of the province of Asti. These south-west facing vineyards are situated at altitudes of 250 and 400m above sea level. The vines have an average age of 20 years and the soil is limestone clay.
The grapes are hand harvested toward the end of August. The crushed grapes are chilled in stainless steel and kept in contact with the skins for 2-3 days. Grapes are pressed in a modern pneumatic press
and the must is fermented in a pressurised tank, but fermentation is halted to leave 5.5% ABV and approximately 100g/l residual sugar.
Bright and aromatic with fresh crushed raspberries, violets and dried ros

2018 Altocedro, La Consulta Ano Cero Tempranillo, Uco Valley
Great to see a Tempranillo grape in La Consulta vineyard (Mendoza). Actually, this grape is the second to be produced in this area, possibly due to the Spanish colonisation many times ago. Karim (winemaker) and his team selected the Tempranillo from 30 year old vines. The whole bunch of vines are fermented in small concrete vats. Then 30% of the production is aged in American oak barrels for 8-10 months.
During its youth, the wine is fruity (blackberries and other black fruit) and well balanced between the body and the acidity. The tannins are smooth with an elegant texture.
This wine could be paired with most lamb dishes, pork (especially good with Spanish style pork and beans), roasted red peppers, tagines, roast game birds and hard sheep’s cheeses like Manchego.

2010 Antinori, Solaia, IGT
The 2010 Solaia is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet. This is a beautiful vintage for Solaia which is only produced when the conditions are excellent. The fruit is particularly marked by warm days and cool nights, enhancing the aromatics and freshness in the wine. Historical data Solaia, a twenty hectare (50 acre) vineyard of the Tignanello estate with a southwestern exposure, is situated at 350-400 meters (1175-1325 feet) above sea level on a soil of calcareous rock (known as "alberese in Tuscany). The Marchesi Antinori firm produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage with an initial blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, a blend repeated again in 1979. In the following vintages 20% of Sangiovese was added to the Cabernet grapes and the ratio of Cabernet Franc to Cabernet Sauvignon was changed in order to create a wine which has now become definitive in its various composing elements. Solaia is only produced in superior vi
