2014 Carmes de Rieussec, Sauternes
VM91RP89
The Carmes de Rieussec 2014 is a blend of 92% Semillon and 4% each of Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. It has a very pure and honeyed bouquet that demonstrates superb intensity. The palate is unctuous on the entry with a touch of ginger, plenty of botrytised fruit but just missing the persistence on the finish that cuts away a little swiftly, just as the wine is getting into its stride. Still, this should be a capable deuxième vin. Neal Martin 88-90/100

2019 was not a straight forward vintage at D'Yquem, however the resulting wine is sensational...

“The 2019 is slightly more powerful than 2018, people may think because there are fewer pickings, we don’t have the complexity, but this is not necessarily an indicator of complexity. The heart of the vintage was picked in those seven days in October. We felt this vintage needed three months longer in barrel, which is why we are releasing in March.” Pierre Lurton CEO of Château D'Yquem

Interestingly, as well as having three extra months in barrel, the 2019 D'Yquem unusually has a larger proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, comprising 45% of the final blend. Ordinarily Sauvignon Blanc would account for only 20-30%.

Lisa Perotti Brown MW from The Wine independent describes the addition of extra Sauvignon Blanc as a shrewd move:

"Have to hand it to them; for this richer vintage, I think the more significant proportion of Sauvignon works beautifully to in

Chateau Myrat dates back to the 1700s, and was bought by the current owners - the Pontac family in 1937. Grown on relatively young vines and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months, this sweet wine is intense with a rich nose and delicious palate.

2014 Chateau Rieussec Premier Cru Classe, Sauternes
VM94RP96
The Château Rieussec 2014 is a blend of 93% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, picked from 15 to 29 October through seven tries, the yield half the normal crop at 13 hectoliters per hectare. Charles Chevalier, how lest we forget started here and not chez Lafite, told me that the beginning of September had overripe grapes with passerillage – the second part had very good levels of botrytis. The blend is from these two parts. The bouquet is very well defined with crystal clear honeysuckle and white peach scents. The palate is beautifully balanced with nigh on perfect acidity that makes this seem just so effortless. I would like to see a little more persistence on the finish, but otherwise this is classic Rieussec that might...and I stress might...just give that Sauternes beginning with the 25th letter of the alphabet, a run for its money. 2008 Chateau Rieussec Premier Cru Classe, Sauternes
RP90?JR17.0
Chateau Rieussec is synonomous with great sweet wines; now part of the Chateau Lafite stable, continued investment has been guaranteed and the wines continue to impress. The 2008 vintage in Sauternes was very good if not exceptional, as it was in 2007.. the growing seasons of 2007 and 2008, there is a significant difference between the resulting wines, for tangibly the 2008s do not have the same level of botrytis, weight or concentration. But dismiss the 2008s at your peril: there are a cluster of superb, steely Sauternes imbued with a thrilling sense of nervosité and precision. Neal Martin The Wine Advocate. Its association with Lafite has created a false market. Effectively a surplus of stock, taken in liew of en primeur allocations of the first growth claret, has reduced the prices to almost half of the release price. There is no question that this is an absolute bargain.
