Château La Pointe is a prestigious estate located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. The estate covers 8.5 hectares of vineyards, which are situated on the Pomerol plateau, where the soils are primarily clay and gravel, providing ideal conditions for the cultivation of Bordeaux’s key grape varieties. Owned by the Moueix family since 2007, Château La Pointe has undergone extensive renovations and improvements, with a focus on both sustainable viticulture and modern winemaking techniques. The estate is dedicated to producing wines of exceptional quality that highlight the finesse and elegance of Pomerol.
The vineyard at Château La Pointe is planted mainly with Merlot, which accounts for about 80% of the vines, with the remaining 20% planted to Cabernet Franc. The Merlot thrives in the estate’s clay soils, producing rich, smooth, and fruit-forward wines, while the Cabernet Franc contributes freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity. The vineyard is meticulously managed, with careful attention to each plot to ensure the grapes reach optimal ripeness. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by a sorting process to ensure that only the finest grapes are selected. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, with around 30% of the barrels being new, which enhances the wine’s depth and complexity.
Château La Pointe is known for producing wines that are elegant, well-balanced, and expressive of the Pomerol terroir. The flagship wine, Château La Pointe, offers aromas of ripe dark fruits such as blackberries and plums, along with subtle notes of truffle, cedar, and violet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with velvety tannins and a smooth texture that creates a harmonious mouthfeel. The oak aging imparts nuances of vanilla and spice, adding complexity without overpowering the fruit. The wine has excellent aging potential, typically reaching its peak after 8 to 12 years, and can evolve beautifully over time, revealing even more layers of complexity. Château La Pointe’s wines are highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs for their elegance, balance, and ability to showcase the distinctive characteristics of Pomerol.
