Ballechin 13 Year Old 2023 Batch 1
The first batch of an exciting new Cask Strength range from the Edradour distillery. Ballechin is the name granted to the peated distillate from "Scotland's little gem", presenting a dryer barbeque smoke rather than the seaweed notes typically presented by peated island malts. Matured in a mix of ex-bourbon American oak casks and traditional Oloroso sherry butts. Buckets of fruits poured onto a bonfire leap out of the nose, with dark chocolate and zesty citrus on the palate. At 54.9% ABV, don't be afraid to add a touch of water.

Edradour 12 Year Old 2011 Barbaresco Small Batch
Though Scotland's Little Gem, The Edradour Distillery, often dabble with cask finishing, they're more renowned for being in the minority of enacting full maturations in less common styles of cask, allowing for an unadulterated presentation of bold flavours on the already robust spirit. This 2011 vintage is a fantastic example of this approach, having spent 12 years in a single Barbaresco Italian wine cask. There's plenty of spicy fruit on this one, giving notes of clove and blackberry jam, as well as a mustiness reminiscent of a much older whisky. Bottled at an impactful 48.2% ABV, giving extra body to this already-pronounced dram.
