This small, 6.5 hectare estate in the Loire Valley was established by Emile Balland in 1999. But the Ballands have a winemaking history in the region dating back to the 17th century, and Emile’s father was actually instrumental in achieving recognition for the AOC Coteaux du Giennois in the 1980s.
The estate includes just one hectare in Sancerre, and his cuvee Croq Caillotte comes from the steep, south facing slopes within the Amigny area of Sancerre. It is one of those rare Sancerre’s which really punches above its weight.
Though the estate and the production is small, Balland is recognised for producing wines of finesse, character, and excellent value for money.
