2014 Alpilles IGP Domaine de Trevallon Rouge
Domaine de Trévallon, is situated in the village of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, around 30 km south of Avignon. The Domaine was purchased in the 1950’s by artist and sculptor René Dürrbach.

René’s son, Eloi moved to the property in the 1970’s and established a winery there.
Spread out over 13 hectares amid this vibrant and protected countryside, the vineyards underwent major work to be integrated into the mesmerizing landscape of scrubland with its green oaks, olive, and almond trees. The rocky ground was blown up, the soil ploughed deep, and the rock fragments were mixed in with the soil.

Eloi Dürrbach planted his first vineyard in the Alpilles in 1973. 15 hectares of red are produced, made from equal amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah,
The vines are cultivated without the use of insecticides, chemical fertilizers or herbicides.

The blend doesn’t conform to the rules for Appellation Contrôleé Coteaux de Baux en Provence so the wine is declassified to Vin de Pays des Bouches du Rhône. However, the chosen assemblage of 50% Syrah and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon has successfully endured and produces one of the finest Provençal wines, revealing rich dark fruit flavours with a touch of liquorice and aromas of “garrigue,” so evocative of Provence.
