2020 Au Bon Climat, Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley
Jim Clendenen, “The Mind Behind” Au Bon Climat took his wine making inspiration from Burgundy, where he spent time in the 1970’s learning first-hand about traditional Burgundian wine making techniques.
After returning to the USA, he decided to produce wines in the style of Burgundy in Santa Barbara County. Au Bon Climat was thus established in 1982 harvest utilizing a repurposed dairy barn.
The results speak for themselves - multiple awards gained over many years, including ‘Winery of the Year’ recently from Antonio Galloni’s Vinous (2019) and Wine & Spirits Magazine (2020 and 2021).

This wine displays aromas and flavours of vibrant Morello cherries, complemented by hints of strawberries and a subtle earthiness. The wine has a generous and ripe profile, with gentle sweet spiciness and fine tannins contribute a subtle grip, culminating in a long, balanced and refreshing finish.
Top-notch Californian Pinot Noir with a French accent!

"Very pale crimson. Pretty sweet palate... fresh and ferny... light and delicate". A reserved, classy, European style Pinot from one of California's top growers".

2019 Cambria, Katherines Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley
Nestled in the refreshing coastal ridges of the Santa Maria Valley, Cambria wines showcase the unique character of each vineyard, adhering to sustainable farming practices and crafted exclusively from Estate-grown grapes.

The flagship Chardonnay undergoes fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and barrels, ensuring the preservation of its fresh flavours and aromatics while introducing texture and complexity. Sur lie aging for 5.5 months in 20% new oak contributes to its nuanced profile, and the wine is carefully blended and bottled after being racked out of barrels.

Notably, 85% of this exceptional wine comes from vines planted in the 1970s.

Boasting a harmonious and lively character, this wine harmoniously melds citrus and stone fruit notes with subtle hints of vanilla and crème brûlée.
Crafted exclusively from the fog-kissed vines of Katherine’s Vineyard, named after proprietor Katie Jackson in 1986, this elegant, and distinctive wine draws its essence from ancient soils enriched with fossilized seashells, limestone, and sand.

Winemaker's notes:
“Fresh fruit and ¬oral aromas dominate the nose and palate; white peach, lemon zest, pear, granny smith apple and citrus blossoms. The oak in¬fluence creates a nice mid-palate that balances nicely with the bright acidity that lingers.”

2010 Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Stags Leap District Napa Valley
“A remarkable wine, the 2010 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has gone from strength to strength since it was in cask. It is stunningly rich, with classic, fragrant notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, vanilla, graphite and spring flowers. It exhibits an opaque purple color, with a full-bodied, massive mouthfeel, but no heaviness, and again, a flawless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. It’s classic California Cabernet, but beautifully put together, showing impeccable craftsmanship and fabulous potential. This is obviously a very young, infantile style of Cabernet that won’t hit its prime for at least another decade and last close to half a century, based on how older vintages that were less well-endowed have matured from Shafer.”
100 Pts, Wine Advocate (RP) (12/2014)

“The Shafer family has made compelling reds for decades and this one is a knock-out. Fabulous character of currants, mint, spice and wet earth. Juicy and fruity, with an intense chewy finish. Needs time to age.”

CAPO DEI PUTTI - 2014 ESTATE SYRAH

“The 2014 Syrah Capo dei Putti saw an amazing 38 months in fully 94% new oak, and it was showing superbly when I tasted it, unfurling in the glass with brooding aromas of blackberry preserve, cherries, bay leaf and a remarkably integrated framing of smoky new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, hyper-concentrated and deep, with an incredibly dense core of fruit that's definitely ripe but avoids overt sucrosity—and is complemented by an impressive degree of savoury nuance. It's a blocky, dense Syrah that will merit some time in bottle, but it is sure to make a considerable impact whenever it's opened. 896 cases, 228 magnums and 30 double magnums were produced. 2020-2035”

TESTA DEI CHERUBINI - 2014 ESTATE GRENACHE
“The 2014 Grenache Testa dei Cherubini saw fully 37.5 months in wood, some 25% new, but its influence is imperceptible; the wine is strikingly pure and vibrant. Krankl commented that the longer the wines spend in barrel, the more slowly they seem to evolve in bottle. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of juicy red cherries, peonies and plums, it's initially quite reserved, becoming more expressive with air. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and very concentrated, with strikingly fine-grained, revolved tannins, juicy acids and impressive length and depth…it's remarkably pure and integrated and ranks as one of the finest Grenache bottlings I've tasted from Sine Qua Non. It's also one wine that will clearly benefit from bottle age, no matter how tempting it may be when it's released in November of this year.”
