2014 Arrocal, Ribera del Duero, Crianza Meloso
One of Spain's top red wine–producing regions, Ribera del Duero is located in the northwest of the country, about 160km north of Madrid or Ribera del Duero 125 km south-west of Rioja.

The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with a continental influence and an extreme nature; it boasts dry summers, long and harsh winters, low rainfall (400-500 mm/year average) and a large difference in temperatures throughout the year (from -20°C to 42°C ).
This results in grapes that are small in size, with thick skins, that have benefited from an optimal slow and late ripening period leading to concentrated flavours.

Bodega Arrocal is a family owned winery, run by Rosa Arroyo and Moisés Calvo, who are native to the area.

AGE OF THE VINEYARD: 30 years. ALTITUDE: 830 meters sea level.
VARIETY: 100% Tinto Fino. (Tempranillo)
HARVEST: Manual in 16 Kg boxes and selection table.
Aging: 12 months in a combination of American and French oak barrels and 12 months ageing in the bottle.
Aromas and flavours of black and forest fruits - blueberries, blackberries and plums, with spicy touches such as vanilla, nutmeg and cloves.
This Crianza is nicely balanced, with toasted and balsamic nuances of black liquorice and forest floor.
Harmonious and velvety tannins, which provide structure and complexity.

Serve at around 14°C with meat stews cheese platters, fatty fish, roasted vegetables and rice or pasta dishes.

2014 Bollinger, La Grande Annee
VM98
La Grand Annee is Bollingers prestige cuvee and is only produced when exceptional vintages occur. The grapes come exclusively from grands and premiers crus. Bollinger use only the cuvee juice in the making of La Grand Annee. The first fermentation is always carried out 100% in old oak barrels, which is quite exceptional in champagne.

2014 Carmes de Rieussec, Sauternes
VM91RP89
The Carmes de Rieussec 2014 is a blend of 92% Semillon and 4% each of Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. It has a very pure and honeyed bouquet that demonstrates superb intensity. The palate is unctuous on the entry with a touch of ginger, plenty of botrytised fruit but just missing the persistence on the finish that cuts away a little swiftly, just as the wine is getting into its stride. Still, this should be a capable deuxième vin. Neal Martin 88-90/100

2014 Charles Heidsieck, Blanc des Millenaires Brut
This cuvee is bright and contained. With notes of fresh blood orange, hazelnuts, and subtle hints of brioche and ripe apricot. There is a deep saltiness and chalky texture. Alongside mild tobacco and eucalyptus. The 2014 carries the vivacity, maturity, and excellent ageing potential of an outstanding vintage.

Expected arrival June 2024.

2014 Chateau Canon Premier Grand Cru Classe B, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
VM93+RP94JR18
The Château Canon 2014 is a blend of 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc, the estate moving towards the latter in terms of its new plantings, which will possibly see 40% in 15 or 20 years time. It was picked from 22 September until 6 October for the Merlot and three days later for the Cabernet Franc, matured in around 80% new oak. It has a glorious bouquet with great purity and delineation: raspberry, wild strawberry and small red cherries, very pure and harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied with sensual ripe, filigree tannin, just the right amount of salinity, precise and mineral-rich towards the exquisite, pure and "classic" finish. This is outstanding for the vintage – a sublime Château Canon that might dare rank alongside the 2009 and 2010. If this represents the valedictory Canon from John Kolasa, then what a way to bow out. 93-95/100 Neal Martin. Decanter 17.75/20

2014 Chateau Musar, Red
Producer notes: “A year for the history books, where the mountains of Lebanon failed to turn white with snow. Very low rainfall during October and November 2013, where precipitation did not exceed 18mm. This trend continued into the New Year – no rain, snow or cold weather and only two stormy days affecting no more than 20% of the country! February and March were the driest and it seems as if this winter was an extension of summer 2013. April, May, June and July, where buds open and flowering occurs was perfect for the vines, but with one very important element missing for summer survival - water. By early August, the vines were starting to suffer badly. Sugar content in Cabernet Sauvignon rose drastically while acidity was stable. The varietal lost 40% of its weight due to lack of moisture and the hard work started on the first day of the red grape harvest - four teams harvesting simultaneously for the first time in Chateau Musar history. Carignan was also affected but not to the same degree, while the survivor of them all was, as usual, the Cinsault.”

Tasting Notes “A deep red colour, with aromas of sweet cherry, plum and dried fruit together with a subtle spice element and hint of tobacco. The wine has a soft, rounded mouthfeel with lots of flavour and fruit concentration – caramel, mocha, ripe red fruits which are supported with soft, velvety tannins and a spicy finish.”
