Producer Profile
Quinta de la Rosa
Quinta de la Rosa is a family-owned wine estate in Portugal’s Douro Valley, renowned for its commitment to producing high-quality Ports and dry wines that express a strong sense of place. Founded in 1906, the estate has remained in the Bergqvist family for generations, blending tradition with a modern, hands-on approach to winemaking. Situated along the banks of the Douro River near Pinhão, its steep terraced vineyards benefit from optimal sun exposure and schist soils, creating ideal conditions for cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
What sets Quinta de la Rosa apart is its philosophy of estate-grown and estate-bottled production, ensuring full control over every stage of the winemaking process. Unlike many traditional Port houses, the winery emphasizes balance, freshness, and structure in both its Ports and still wines. Fermentation often takes place in granite lagares, where grapes are foot-trodden - a time-honoured method that enhances extraction while preserving elegance. Alongside classic Vintage and LBV Ports, the estate has gained recognition for its Douro DOC wines, which showcase a more contemporary and versatile expression of the region.
Today, Quinta de la Rosa is led by the next generation, who continue to innovate while respecting the estate’s heritage. The property has also developed into a destination for wine tourism, offering tastings, vineyard tours, and boutique accommodation overlooking the Douro River. This combination of authenticity, family stewardship, and quality-driven production has established Quinta de la Rosa as one of the standout producers in the Douro Valley, appealing to both traditional Port enthusiasts and modern wine drinkers alike.
