Producer Profile
Château de Plaisance
Nestled in the heart of Anjou noir, amidst the revered terroirs of Chaume, quart de Chaume, and Savennières, Plaisance stands as a rare gem. Embracing organic farming since 1995 and transitioning to biodynamic practices in 2008, it represents a distinctive commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Originally in the stewardship of the Rochais family since 1960, Plaisance underwent a significant transformation when Vanessa Cherruau, a passionate young native of Angers, assumed ownership. For Cherruau, Plaisance embodies a tale of profound significance—a convergence of place, encounter, and spirit. The latent potential of this ancient terroir becomes unmistakable under her stewardship.
The journey commenced on September 12, 2019, amidst the anticipation of impending parenthood and with a fledgling team by her side. It was a venture fuelled by audacity and an unbridled dream.
Plaisance boasts a rare mosaic of vineyards, exclusively comprising crus where Chenin Blanc reigns supreme, constituting 80% of the plantings.
These vineyards, comprising schist, spilite, sandstone, and poudingue soils, offer a canvas for the expressive nature of Chenin Blanc. A small proportion of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the slopes of Butte de Chaume, complement this diverse spectrum.
The portfolio of cuvées, has a primary focus on showcasing the terroir through dry Chenin Blanc crus.
The Plaisance winemaking philosophy is grounded in natural practices, eschewing intrusive interventions and additives, save for minute doses of sulphur when deemed necessary.
