Producer Profile
Charles Frey
Nestled in the picturesque village of Dambach-la-Ville in the heart of Alsace, Domaine Charles Frey has been family-owned for generations, with the estate now led by Jean-Charles and Dominique Frey. The family's vineyards span some of the region's finest terroirs, including sites rich in granite, schist and limestone, allowing them to craft wines that express the remarkable diversity of Alsace. Their approach is rooted in a deep respect for nature, with every decision made to preserve the vitality of the vineyard and the character of each individual parcel.
A pioneer of sustainable viticulture in the region, Domaine Charles Frey began converting its vineyards to organic farming in the late 1990s before embracing biodynamic principles soon afterwards. Today, the estate is recognised for its meticulous vineyard work, encouraging biodiversity and healthy soils to produce grapes of exceptional quality. Intervention in the winery is kept to a minimum, allowing each vintage and terroir to speak with clarity and precision.
The resulting wines are vibrant, expressive and unmistakably Alsatian, ranging from finely etched Riesling and aromatic Gewurztraminer to beautifully textured Pinot Gris and elegant Crémant d'Alsace. Combining purity of fruit with freshness, mineral character and excellent ageing potential, Charles Frey's wines have earned a reputation for authenticity and consistency, making the domaine one of the leading names in modern Alsace.
