2008 Bollinger, Vieilles Vignes Francaises

Bollingers most exclusive cuvee comes from two tiny Grand Cru plots of Pinot Noir vines in Ay. These plots are miraculous not just for their terroir, but for containing the few survivors of the phylloxera crisis which ravaged the Champagne region in the early 20th century. These are among the oldest vines in France. The vines are treated exclusively with traditional methods, usually by hand or with a horse. The production for this vintage amounted to 3,300 bottles of Blanc de Noirs Champagne.

Brora 25 Year Old 2008
Few distilleries occupy as evocative a space for whisky enthusiasts as Brora. This intriguing distillery was founded in 1819 and intermittently operated until 1983 when it seemingly closed its door forever. This 2008-released 25 year old expression contains some of the final spirit to be produced at the distillery before its 80s closure. With the distillery producing spirit once more, this is sure to be a fascinating comparison against a new age of this world-famous distillery.

2008 Chateau Rieussec Premier Cru Classe, Sauternes
RP90?JR17.0
Chateau Rieussec is synonomous with great sweet wines; now part of the Chateau Lafite stable, continued investment has been guaranteed and the wines continue to impress. The 2008 vintage in Sauternes was very good if not exceptional, as it was in 2007.. the growing seasons of 2007 and 2008, there is a significant difference between the resulting wines, for tangibly the 2008s do not have the same level of botrytis, weight or concentration. But dismiss the 2008s at your peril: there are a cluster of superb, steely Sauternes imbued with a thrilling sense of nervosité and precision. Neal Martin The Wine Advocate. Its association with Lafite has created a false market. Effectively a surplus of stock, taken in liew of en primeur allocations of the first growth claret, has reduced the prices to almost half of the release price. There is no question that this is an absolute bargain.
