Producer Profile
Château de Fieuzal
Château de Fieuzal is a prestigious estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux, renowned for producing both red and dry white wines that reflect the quality and diversity of its terroir. The estate dates back several centuries and takes its name from the Fieuzal family, early owners of the property. The vineyards lie on gravelly soils south of Bordeaux in Léognan, an area prized for excellent drainage that contributes structure, freshness, and clarity to the wines.
Since 2001, Château de Fieuzal has been owned by Irish couple Brenda and Lochlann Quinn, who have invested extensively in both the vineyards and winery while balancing tradition with modern innovation. Under the direction of winemaker Stephen Carrier, appointed in 2007, the estate has refined its approach through detailed vineyard management, hand harvesting, and parcel-by-parcel vinification. A modern cellar inaugurated in 2011 supports this precision-driven philosophy and allows the estate to fully express the character of its terroir while preserving its classic Bordeaux identity.
The vineyard covers approximately 75 hectares, planted primarily with red grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, alongside around 10 hectares dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for white wine production. The red wines are typically structured and elegant, showing layers of dark fruit, spice, and mineral notes, while the white wines are noted for their purity, energy, and balance and are considered among the finest dry whites of the region. Château de Fieuzal also produces a second wine, L’Abeille de Fieuzal, offering a more approachable expression of the estate’s style.
