Tasting Notes
Will Gardener 89-91/100
Very deep colour, cassis and. chocolate immediately oozing out, this has an open style, no holding back on the palate either, lots of fruit, quite light on the freshness, this is ripe and jammy, good value.

The 2016 Haut-Bergey is powerful and a bit rough around the edges, but pleasantly rustic in its own way. Leather, tobacco, cedar and game power through in this deep, flavorful Pessac-Leognan.

The 2016 Haut Bergey has a superior bouquet compared to the previous two vintages that left this writer a bit perplexed. There is greater purity and harmony here: marine-tinged black fruit with just a hint of cassis developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin on the entry, good depth with a slightly “fishy” note in the background. It loses its ways a little towards the finish where I am seeking more structure and detail. Let’s see how this performs once in bottle.

Tasted blind. Lots of fruit and freshness. Clean and driven. Good energy. A bit inky.
