Producer Profile
Chateau Clinet
The name Clinet in Pomerol dates back to at least the 1770s, and since then they have garnered much respect for the quality of their wines. Their wines are invariably elegant, powerful and accomplished, with fine tannins and a dark fruit profile.
Jean-Louis Laborde has been owner and director of the estate since 1998, with his son joining the business in 2003. The first thing he did upon arrival was pull up 1/5 of the vineyards and replanting, meaning that production was reduced until roughly 2008. Since then, there has been an increase of Cabernet Sauvignon in the wines, and an increased over all density. Under his stewardship, the estate quickly rose in notoriety.
They have 11 hectares of vineyards, scattered over 21 plots made up of 88% Merlot, 11.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 0.5% Cabernet Franc. Altogether their vines average 40-50 years old, with some going up to 80 years. The soils are gravel, deep clay, with classic Pomerol iron-ore
