Tasting Notes

The 2020 Haut-Bergey has a fleshy, fruit-forward and opulent nose that is seemingly driven more by the growing season than the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied but rather green on the entry and slightly bitter. I wonder if some vines suffered stress and didn't quite attain phenolic maturity. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2030

The 2020 Haut-Bergey is packed with dark fruit, gravel, scorched earth, licorice and incense. Elevage has done quite a bit to pull the 2020 together. Even so, some rough edges remain. This pleasantly rustic Pessac-Leognan packs a pretty big punch.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2030

Tasted blind. Very deep greyish crimson. Sweet cassis and blackberry on the nose but less ripe on the palate. Open and inviting aroma but leads to a slightly odd flavour on the palate, rather dry and flat on the finish. (JH)
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2033
